Why are network important when gaming?

Can anyone explain how to properly account for fees? I used to think that if a platform didn't charge a separate fee, a transfer would be practically free, but it turns out there are network costs. Now I'm a bit confused because the terms and conditions can vary across different networks. I wonder how to understand in advance how much I'll actually need to deposit or withdraw, and why a small transfer amount can sometimes be disadvantageous due to additional costs?

When working with cryptocurrency, it's really helpful to distinguish between the platform's fees and the blockchain network's fees. The former is set by the service, while the latter is related to the transaction processing by the corresponding network. Therefore, a platform's "no fee" statement doesn't necessarily mean the transfer is completely free. Network costs depend on the specific blockchain and the current workload, and for some assets, there are different networks that you can't mindlessly switch between. For example, sending a token through the wrong network can lead not only to additional costs, but also to the loss of access to the funds. Before making a transfer, it's best to check which network both parties support, what the minimum amount is, and what the fee is displayed immediately before confirmation. This is especially important for small transfers, as the fixed fee can account for a significant portion of the total amount. Therefore, I recommend not relying solely on the cryptocurrency name, but always looking at the specific network and the final amount that will be credited to the recipient.
